Discussing Chakras During Summer Camp
Discussing Chakras During Summer Camp

Shakti Kids Yoga is made up of dedicated teachers who work with our community of youngsters. This month we would like to thank our thoughtful teacher, Christine for telling us about herself and spreading our mission of teaching kids they have all the tools they need within themselves to be calmer and more connected.

How did you first get into yoga?

I was introduced to yoga while attending college in San Francisco, but delved deeper into my practice when I came back to Colorado in 2011, becoming an avid yogi. I have worked for several Denver yoga studios, one of which is where I met Liz Shakti, our amazing founder, and ended up taking her 95 HR Kids and Family Yoga Teacher Training. I knew I wanted to work with kids, not only because I have two beautiful daughters of my own, but to support an under served community.

What do you like to do in your classes?

One of my favorite things to do during class is a nice Bubble Savasana, where we lay on our backs while listening to relaxing music and let the bubbles from my wand fall down onto us as we observe. I also like to take the bubble theme further and practice our breathing with bubble breaths.

Can you share some tips with us?

I have found that incorporating yoga and breath work into my own kids lives has changed the way they react to uncomfortable situations. Just last night my 3 year old was having a hard time accepting no for an answer, so I met her where she was and we named her feelings and tried to breathe together. We used a bunny breath to calm down, one of my favorite breaths that you can also try at home. Simply take three short sharp inhales through the nose, and one deep breath out. You can repeat this breath 7-9 times in a row for a nice burst of energy to reset!
