Falling into Mindfulness: How to Make a Family Gratitude Jar
The transition into fall brings fresh school routines, busier schedules, and crisp autumn air. With so much changing around us, it is the perfect time of year to ground ourselves in thankfulness.
One of our favorite mindfulness activities for kids and caretakers to do together is creating a Family Gratitude Jar. It is a simple, visual way to practice appreciation and stay connected during busy seasons of life.

What You’ll Need:
An empty glass jar or plastic container
Ribbons, stickers, or markers to decorate it
Small slips of colorful paper
Pens, pencils, or crayons
How to Create:
Decorate your jar: Spend some time together making the jar look special.
Pause and reflect: Take a deep breath together. Think about a happy memory, a kind act, or something you love and then,
Write or draw: Something you are grateful for
Watch it grow: Keep the jar on your kitchen counter or dining table. Add to it whenever you feel inspired.
The Best Part?
On a rainy autumn day—or a afternoon when the back-to-school rush feels a bit overwhelming—dump the jar out and read the slips together. It is an instant mood booster and a beautiful reminder of what matters most.
